Obituary

Reverend Kay Lorraine Jones was born on September 23, 1938, in Edenton, North Carolina, to Percy Spruill and Annie Fayton. She was educated in the public schools of Norfolk, Virginia where she was a graduate of the Crestwood High School Class of 1956. She furthered her education at Virginia State University.

Kay was employed with MSI Electronics from the early1970’s until her retirement. There, she made specialized gold diodes which were used in various electronic application including NASA’s space shuttle program.

Kay was a member of Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church where she sang on the choir. She also attended Greater Saint Stevens Baptist Church where she served as the Minister of Music and Holy Unity Baptist Church.

She served as the Worthy Matron of Rosebud Chapter 561, OES. She was the associate conductress of the Metro State Grand Chapter, she organized the Court of Isis, and was the Daughter of the Dessert.

In addition to her commitment to serving others, Kay found great joy in spending time with those she loved. She was an accomplished pianist. She also loved being part of Eastern Star, traveling, and most of all she loved giving.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Chanton Wallace Jones, Sr.; one son, Chanton Wallace Jones, Jr., one sister, Marvin Spruill; and one brother, Elmo Spruill.

At 10:16 P.M. on the evening of Tuesday, August 04, 2026, Reverend Kay Lorraine Jones departed this life at Hospice House of Clinton in Laurens County, South Carolina at the age of eighty-seven.

She leaves to cherish her beautiful memories her son, Anthony (Tammy) Jones; one grandson, Quinton (Angela) Young; one granddaughter, Chenel Wheeler; two great grandchildren: Amaria Lindsey and Alydia Young; three brothers: Melvin Spruill, Marshall Spruill, and Don Spruill; brothers and sisters-in-law: Bennie (Helen) Young, Melba Dowd, Marion Chrichlow, Mamie Jones, Joyce Jones, Ann Spruill, and Ruby Jones; twelve nieces: Cookie Johnson, Donnette Spruill, Debbie Witherspoon, Natilie Wills, Sandra Jones, Gina Jones, Crystal Singletary, Beverly Jones, Pat Moore, Stephanie Ramos, Janine Johnson, and Lisa Pinn; seven nephews: Rodney Jones, Sean (Mayra Spruill, Doug Jones, Clifton Muhammed, Brian Dowd, Jeffrey Spruill, and Craig Spruill; three special friends: Mary Ray, Ostine Cox, and An Spruill; and three special caregivers: Lucious Ann Trabue, Janice Williams, and Tonya Calwile Ellis.
