Obituary

Mr. Raymond Ligon was born on September 8th, 1957, in Laurens, South Carolina to Jennie Mozell Lewis of Laurens, South Carolina and the late Raymond Coker, formerly of Syracuse, New York.

“Mike” or “RayRay”, as he was affectionately called by loved ones and friends, led a life of hard work, adventure and devotion to his family. Mike spent his formative years in Laurens with his mother and stepfather, Harold Lewis, and his “brothers from another mother” Ben Daniel and Lance Ligon - until his graduation from Laurens District 55 High School. Soon after he started his own family with two children, Demetria and Raymond Michael McDowell.

Mike briefly joined the United States Army where he served until he wasBmedically discharged. He then decided to start his next adventure inBSyracuse, NY. After arriving in Syracuse, he started working for New Venture Gear until an untimely layoff, but little did he know, fate was taking him on a brief detour. Always a hard worker, Mike then started working in Environmental Services at Community General Hospital where he eventually met the love of his life, Patricia, whom he married just four short years later. He returned to working at New Venture Gear until his retirement thirty-eight years later. Mike and Pat welcomed their daughter, Lauren, in 1992.

Mr. Raymond Ligon departed this life on the evening of Thursday, August 13th, 2026, at the age of sixty-eight.

Mike loved to travel and brought those he loved along for the ride. Traveling up and down the East Coast in the “Big Purple Van”, hitting sites like Disneyworld, Virginia Beach, Connecticut, Busch Gardens, Universal Studios, Niagara Falls, and so many more. Mike always packed the van full of family and fun and drove as far as he could. The traveling extended to his work life asBwell, having moved to Detroit for seven years to work at Chrysler’s Detroit Stamping factory,Bwhere he eventually retired from.

In addition to his mother, Jennie Mozell Lewis of Laurens SC, Mike leaves to cherish his memory his wife of thirty-eight years, Patricia Ligon of Syracuse NY; his children: Demetria McDowell and Raymond Michael “Little Mike” McDowell both of Laurens SC and Lauren Ligon of Syracuse NY; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Vinessa Bufford of Nashville, TN and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
