Obituary

Mrs. Hanna Dawkins Lewis entered into eternal rest at her home on Sunday, September 20, 2026. She was born on February 3, 1950, in Laurens County, South Carolina, to the late Anna Sullivan and James “Jim” Bolden.

Hanna received her education through the public schools of Laurens County. She was a faithful and devoted member of Pleasantview Missionary Baptist Church in Gray Court, South Carolina, where she worshiped and served until her health declined.

Hanna was united in marriage to the late Deacon Otis Lewis, Jr. She was a loving wife, sister, aunt, and caregiver who treasured her family dearly. Her home was a place of love, comfort, and care, and she raised her beloved great-nieces, Rochella Minnie Wright of Laurens and Ashley Nicole Hampton of Greenwood.

In addition to her husband, Deacon Otis Lewis, Jr., Hanna was preceded in death by her twin sister, Anna McClure; her sisters, Dorothy Montgomery, Minnie Lee Walker, Barbara Ann Pinson, Mary Alice Rice, Minnie Maude Dawkins, Olive Bolden, and Dorothy Ann Rainey; and her brothers, Wallace Bolden, Howard Dawkins, and Jimmy Bolden.

Those left to cherish her precious memory include her sister, Shirley (Bennie) Williams of Gray Court, South Carolina; her brother, Leroy (Ann) Dawkins of Laurens, South Carolina; her great-nieces whom she raised in the home as daughters: Rochella Minnie Wright and Ashley Nicole Hampton; and her beloved and devoted niece and caregiver, Shirley (Willie) Rice Hill; a special friend who was there Tabatha Sullivan.

She also leaves to cherish her memory a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews, extended family members, church family, and friends.

Hanna’s life was a testament to the love she had for her family and those around her. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved and knew her.

“To be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.”

— 2 Corinthians 5:8May the life and legacy of Mrs. Hanna Dawkins Lewis continue to live on through the many lives she touched.
