Mr. Avery Lee Barksdale, Sr., affectionately known as "Abe," was born on February 12, 1963, in Laurens, South Carolina, to the late Willie Gene Barksdale, Sr. and Lillie T. Jackson. He departed this life on September 6, 2026, in Laurens, South Carolina.

Avery was educated in the local schools and was a high school graduate. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy before retiring from military service. His service reflected a life of dedication and commitment.

In his leisure time, Avery enjoyed fishing and watching his favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys. He also shared a special bond with the Class of 1981 and leaves behind a host of classmates, relatives, and friends who will cherish the memories they shared with him.

Avery was preceded in death by his mother, Lillie T. Jackson; his father, Willie Gene Barksdale, Sr.; his brothers, Willie Gene Barksdale, Jr. and Bernard Caldwell.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Shenn Barksdale; his son, Avery Barksdale, Jr.; his siblings, Dianne Ballard, Pearleana Barksdale, Shelia Miller, and Bobby Barksdale; the Class of 1981; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Avery's life and the memories he created with those who knew and loved him will remain forever in their hearts.
